Your Story Is Complicated.
Your Content Shouldn’t Be.
I specialize in turning complex ideas into content that builds trust, ranks well, and moves people to act.
I work with brands in industries where a single misused word can undermine credibility, where the audience is skeptical by nature, and where the content has to do real work. My clients trust me to take complicated ideas and make them clear, to represent their brand with accuracy and consistency, and to bring a strategic perspective to every piece of content I touch.
I've spent 13 years doing this across B2B tech, healthcare, safety and security, senior living, and more. The industries change. My obsession with getting your voice exactly right never does.
I’m blonde now, but you

Selected Work
This blog post was written as part of a broader SEO content strategy targeting high-value, high-intent keywords. Within six months of publishing, it climbed 92 spots in Google search results to claim a first-page position, the result of deliberate keyword selection, strategic content structure, and writing built to match exactly what the target audience was searching for.
This piece was part of a content strategy that delivered measurable results across the board: 43% growth in both revenue and pageviews, and a significant improvement in average time spent on page month-over-month. Of all the blogs in Twinings' content program, this one generated the highest organic pageviews.
A reference document covering Schlage's complete hardware line including finishes, knobs, levers, trim, and handlesets. Each entry includes original marketing copy, style and design language, architectural inspiration, aspirational pairings, and coordinating elements, giving sales teams, retail partners, and internal writers everything they needed to talk about Schlage products with accuracy, consistency, and genuine style authority. The Lexicon was built from immersion interviews with Schlage's Industrial Design and Product ID teams and served as the definitive reference document for anyone communicating about the brand's product line.
Communications Blueprint
A comprehensive brand platform written for one of America's most recognized door hardware brands. This document covers everything from brand manifesto and mission pillars to consumer segmentation profiles, channel-specific key messages, and example copy across mechanical and electronic product lines. It was developed for distinct target audiences and structured to guide creative briefs, collateral development, and campaign work across the organization. I rewrote this from a draft submitted by Schlage's agency of record, bringing it into alignment with the brand's actual voice and strategic direction.
An editorial style guide written to support the launch of Schlage's matte black finish, at the time a major trend in interior design. Rather than a traditional product sheet, this piece was written as lifestyle content: grounded in design history, informed by interviews with Schlage's industrial design team and outside design experts, and structured to help homeowners at every confidence level find their way into the trend. Designed to merge content marketing and brand storytelling to build category authority.
A bylined article making the case for something most marketing teams resist: leaning into negativity strategically. Drawing on the StoryBrand framework and real brand examples, this piece argues that acknowledging your audience's genuine frustrations builds more trust and engagement than relentlessly positive messaging, and shows how to do it without alienating anyone.
A semi-scripted interview positioning Schlage's VP of Strategy & Partnerships as a leading voice in the smart home space. Rob Martens, whose title at the time was "Futurist", uses the metaphor of a symphony to articulate how technology should move in harmony with the natural rhythm of daily life rather than interrupting it. The strategic positioning in this video contributed to Rob's trajectory as a recognized industry thought leader; he has since gone on to lead the Allegion venture capital fund. This is what effective thought leadership content is supposed to do: build a platform that outlasts the campaign.
A fully animated product marketing video written to introduce homeowners to Schlage's style and finish range. The script was designed to move the viewer through the entire purchase consideration journey in under two minutes, from curb appeal to interior finishing touches, while weaving in key brand pillars: variety, ease of installation, and the lifetime warranty. Warm and approachable in tone, it translates a broad product line into a simple, confident invitation.

What people say about my work:
“Partnering with Kim was refreshing, from both her diligence, intellect, and work ethic to her ability to be creative and execute with little-to-no resources. She managed to help drive, or in many cases completely own, parts of our content strategy. Her dynamic mix of both creative writing abilities and a strategic understanding of how customers will engage with a brand and her efforts directly impacted our brand, leading to increased web traffic and customer engagement.”
— Eric

“I've had the pleasure of working with Kim Steinmetz for four years. She's hardworking, relentlessly creative, and always ahead of the curve when it comes to technology. Her innovative mindset in a fast changing world is matched only by her ability to bring fresh, compelling ideas to the table. Over the past year, she's successfully upgraded her skills from ‘being a great writer’ to an AI forward leader on our team. I'd highly recommend her!”
— Rajat
“Kim is the kind of teammate every content director hopes to have — sharp, curious, and incredibly dependable. She brings a rare balance of big-picture thinking and precision, which shows up in everything from content and messaging strategy to SEO and copywriting.
She’s also quietly pioneering in the AI space. Kim has developed custom GPTs tailored to our work and has already started streamlining internal processes to make our content workflows more efficient. She’s thinking critically about how these tools fit into real-world marketing work. Kim loves a challenge to sink her teeth into.
What I appreciate most is her thoughtfulness. Kim asks smart questions, listens closely, and delivers work that’s both strategic and grounded in execution. She's someone I trust with the details and the context behind them, which is no small thing in a fast-moving environment like ours. Kim been a tremendous asset to our team, and I’m genuinely excited to see what she does next.”
